The colors here are very striking. Thanks for sharing them, Deborah. But most importantly, I appreciate your keen observation: "When I tire of words, I paint." What I love about paintings is that, though it consists of multiple miracles and brushtrokes--the picture is usually perceived as singular. In a way that no word can be. So in a way, it's a much deeper way of communicating. :)
You are so right, Thalia! I never thought about it that way, but writing by design is linear, one word, one phrase, one sentence at a time, and often our response is that way too. While painting, at least our response to it, is nonlinear, grasping it all at once, or the eye circling over it, following the flow of its movement.
Thanks for sharing your paintings, Deborah. I’d like to share some of mine with you. Maybe even show you what I’m writing. My deadline is the end of April. After that I’ll invite you over for Ted Lasso’s official biscuits and tea😘❤️🐝🌟
I do that too! Immerse myself in the "no words" of painting. I also love the play with colors. Your tree paintings are lovely and inspiring to me. I've been overwhelmed with words and with responsibility but your post makes me want to pick up my brushes right now. Thank you!
You are so welcome! I too go through long periods where I'm just writing, or too busy to write or paint. But eventually I have to get back to one or the other to feel centered again. I've always been an art lover, but never thought of myself as an artist. But once I started painting it was so much fun and interesting and challenging, and such a welcome relief from writing that I knew it had to become an important part of my life. Still II find that I'm either in a painting period or a writing period. I seem to need to focus on one or the other for intense periods of time rather than doing both at the same time..
Yes, I have always been drawn to painting and even wanted to major in art in college but - get this - I didn't think I had enough skills or talent to major in art when I started college. What did I think college was for if not to develop the skills and talents that I did have???? anyway, I didn't really get into it until about 20 years ago when I dropped in on a class at the local community center and got hooked. I just love playing with it and have finally started thinking of myself as an artist. I have art as an avocation, not a career, and that is probably better for me anyway. If it were my career, I think I would push too hard and it would lose the fun element.
Avocation, yes, I like that. I don't want to make a career of art either. Or try to market or sell it. Like you, I think it would diminish the pleasure. Strangely though, I do want to sell my writing, my novels especially, and knowing that doesn't diminish the joy I derive from writing. Or keep me from writing even knowing what I write may never be published, at least traditionally, in this market. Hmm, I'll have to think about that. I'd love to see some of your paintings.

Absolutely Deborah!

It sounds like fun, let's do it!
I'd love to see your paintings and writing. End of April is good for me too.

Some of my paintings have shown up here and there in past posts but I might just build a post around a few as you did here. 👍
I hope you do! I would enjoy that.
