What a gorgeous bringing together - the Turner painting and that poem! Wow! I can feel that tangible sense of - taking out an afternoon and turning it in my fingers - so visceral.

Thank you! I love the way you put that, turning it in your fingers. Beautiful.

Art and music are wonderful places to retreat, recenter, and find balance. When the pandemic hit, I realized more than ever that I can only control what I can control. That is the best I can do. I can't control war, climate change, politics, civil unrest, natural disasters, or pandemics. I have to release and let go and be at peace with what I can't control. Otherwise, mentally, it will become such a weight and a burden that it isn't healthy or sustainable to navigate day-to-day life.

By the way, I love the Turner and Nolde examples you have used to illustrate your piece!

Yes, we don't have control of outward events, only inward. Finding that inner peace is so important. Thank you for sharing that. I'm so glad you liked the artwork I chosen for this post. I always take such care to find something that expresses what I want to say, and it's always a pleasure to do so.

I had to step back from 24-hour news and social media as I found it far too mentally draining, toxic, and taking a toll on my own mental health. I unplugged and deleted from social media in 2019, and these days I choose when and where I absorb my news. Most American news is geared toward clickbait, sensationalism, and negative stories. There is only so much helplessness my brain can handle.

Every day, I work with our kids and the younger generation. Hopefully, they will grow up to be kinder and more responsible adults than those from whom they are inheriting the world!

Turner is one of my favorite artist.

Me too! I loved this one because it looks like "the color of water falling through sunlight" from the poem and juxtaposes beauty of that against the sea monster lurking at the bottom, altogether capturing what this post is all about: that balance.

I remember the first time I saw a Turner was 50yrs ago in Wm Howard Taft home/museum in Cincinnati, Ohio.

I don’t remember learning about him in the art history classes I took, but I was a science person, maybe I just don’t remember, but the pictures I remember.
