Congratulations, Deborah! You’ve done it. Your novel sounds wonderful. If it’s half as engaging as your poems and essays, I’m sure it is. Here’s to much success with it!
Thank you, Andrew! I'm pretty happy with the novel, and it's been getting lots of enthusiastic early reader reviews. In some ways, I feel it's a success already.
Of course it was a success the minute you finished it, Deborah. You have achieved something that is difficult to do. What I should have said was, I wish you much success with the sales and marketing process—which as we know is a very different thing. Glad to hear early reviews are positive. Here’s to many more of the same!
Thanks, Andrew. Yes, sales and marketing are quite different. It's an interesting process, and I'm learning a lot. I want the novel to be successful in that sense too (sales), of course, but the main part for me is when readers say they loved my book, loved the characters, and found it meaningful in the way I had hoped. Right now that's a dozen or so readers, and I'd like it to be a 100 or a thousand or a million for that matter--but I don't think the satisfaction I would feel even at those levels would eclipse the thrill I feel with these dozen validations. So that's what I mean about it already feels like a success. What the sales will do is help pay the way for publishing my next novel, and the one after. And that's important too.
Thanks, James. Yes, I'm very happy with it. Early reviews have been super enthusiastic, but even before they started coming in I felt a deep satisfaction what I had wrought.

Congratulations! It looks good. I hope you are happy with it: that's the most important thing. The rest is in the laps of the gods...
It's funny how no one seems to know how much work goes into it- except for other authors. Well done.

Paperback order placed! Looking forward to reading it, Deborah! 😊
My first pre-order! Thanks so much, Michael. It won't be released until September, but I hope you enjoy it!
